I think it's the end of an era :[

This man has had such an influence on the world, it's almost unbelievable. His music alone has inspired millions of people. And as a performer he was simply unbeatable - no one else can match up to his level of showmanship. Yet throughout all this, he remained a humble, even shy man, misunderstood to a shocking degree.

I personally don't give a damn about all those people mocking his death, they can't hurt him anymore and I won't let it bother me.

I still can't believe it. Last night I was just suddenly getting texts and MSN messages and people were bursting into my room telling me he'd had a heart attack, and even as I refreshed on the news sites reports started coming in that he was dead, and more and more sources were coming forward every minute, but I still wouldn't accept it until one of his representatives had given word. Couldn't sleep for ages ]:

So!
Last night's Beyoncé show.
Big entry upcoming 8D

I'd read that the doors opened at 6.00 so my mum and I wanted to be there for then. And so many people had been warning us of nightmare bank holiday public transport that we ended up leaving the house at 2.00 in the hopes of catching the 2.40 train to London Bridge. Unfortunately we missed it by a few minutes (my mum doesn't do running), but we only had to wait 20 minutes for another so that was okay.

I love trains to London. They're funnnn.

Then we went straight to the platform for the train to Charlton and hopped on. That was only a 15 minute journey. I noticed that the train we were on was a Southeastern service, and we only had tickets for First Capital Connect trains. Turns out that Charlton station was only served by Southeastern, so that bloody woman in the ticket office was obviously a fucking retard giving us FCC only tickets.

But luckily no inspectors turned up and we reached Charlton by 4.30. And since the bus ride to the 02 Arena was only about 10 minutes, we decided to have a look around Charlton for somewhere to buy a pasty or two. But there were none, so we got the train back to London Bridge and bought them there. And then we got the train back to Charlton. Then it got really packed and when we got off we got shooed into a bus by some attendant people.

Then we arrived at the 02 which was soooo busy omg. We had to queue 20 minutes to use the toilets!

And I bought a Beyoncé poster! It's got the picture from that banner up there ^ on it :P
Thought about getting a t-shirt too. But they weren't really that nice so I decided it wasn't worth it.

Then when we went in to the arena bit they searched our bags and everything. And I'd forgotten to take my bloody box-opener from work out of my bag again, every time I go to London I forget!
But luckily he only searched half-heartedly and didn't see it. He did take the lids off our coke bottles though, in case they exploded. And he didn't give them back D:

The arena was huuuuuge! We were right on the top floor as well, which was like a million feet up. And it was also really steep - like you were much higher than the people in the row in front of you. Good for seeing though, you have a clear view as long as you don't have a really tall person standing up in front of you while you're sitting down. The problem is that you only have a tiny bit of space between your seat and the top of the next row down. It feels so precarious, like if you stumbled you'd fall and break the neck of whoever was beneath you :S
And also when you're walking along to get to your seat, everyone has to stand up to let you past because there isn't enough space for you to walk past if they're sitting down. So that's scary.

Theen we sat there waiting for about an hour before the lights suddenly turned out and some support act burst onto the stage. The sound quality in there wasn't great so I didn't catch her name. She had a great voice though. But they didn't turn the screens on the side on for her so all I could see was this tiny little figure dancing.

Then the second support act was Chantelle or something. My mum said she's famous and was very suprised I'd never heard of her. She was pretty alright too. Not as good as the first though.

After that we had to wait another half hour for Beyoncé. By this time I was getting slightly annoyed and sore from all the sitting still. And my sunburnt shoulders really hurt D:

Anyway, then she bursts out. I did try to remember the set list, honest, but then I forgot D:
She started with Crazy In Love, then did Naughty Girl, then Freakum Dress, then I lost count~

She did loooads of songs. It was great. The big screens on the sides were great quality too, it must have been really hard controlling the camera and trying to keep it on her all the time when she was prancing around.

She also changed outfits very frequently. At one point she had this thing that looked like a massive white wedding dress made of really stiff white netting. And then she was lifted through the trapdoor on the stage wearing a little sparkly gold thing with a huuuuuuge golden train that flowed down behind her as she was lifted into the air and fleewwwwwwww across the arena onto the central stage bit. Then she unclipped it and it all fell neatly back into the trapdoor :O

Also, her backing dancers were amazing. THE BLOKES WERE SOOO FIT OMG, YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN THEIR ABS. And the women all had really good figures too. And they were all wearing gold catsuit thingies. Not all of them but yeah.

Then she made this little speech in the middle about how her music is empowering to women or something and how all girls should stick together, and she showed us through her all-female band, which was funny 'cos I was just thinking the other day about how you hardly ever see women playing guitar or drums. And the guitar woman was awesome. She held her guitar behind her head and played it XD

Upgrade U, Get Me Bodied (this one was goood), oooh and she did a lovely version of Listen, I -think- she did Check On It, she did Beautiful Liar, If I Were A Boy (the audience was weeell into this one), Broken-Hearted Girl (I was waay singing along xD).

Ohhh and Ave Maria was brilliant. She has such an operatic voice, and she added all this Italian into it too. Very authentic. All I understood was "Graziiiiiiiie Mariiiiiiiiiiaaaaa!" haha

Smash Into You was also fab. I adore that song, it's so lovely.

And she had the whole audience sing the first few lines of Irreplaceable too - I don't know why but it always sounds so lovely when loads of people sing together. It was very heartwarming. Except for no one knew one of the lines, so it all just descending into burbling for a second before the singing started again. It went a bit like this:

"And keep talking that mess, that's fine
But could you walk and talk at the same time?

nannnaaaaaaaaanananaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Hahaha.

So where were we... she also did "Radio" (best song evverrrrr) and "Diva" which is such a fun song.

Then at about half way through, when she disappeared for a moment, this big animation came up on the screen - it was a very suggestive robot/leopard CGI-Beyonce standing in a snowstorm and being approached by a snow leopard. It was crazy. Then she appeared wearing her leopard print leotard with crazy metallic breastplate to sing "Sweet Dreams" which is also a wonderful song.

She also did a very raunchy rendition of "Video Phone". It involved her and a few other dancers doing a sexual dance with a chair while being filmed in a dramatic fashion by those buff male dancers.

She also did Hello and Ego. I love Ego :D And Hello is iafjsaf <3

I was sad she didn't do Ring The Alarm or Scared of Lonely but oh well.

Oh and hahaha

At one point, she goes over to the crowd down at the front, approaches some random asian guy and asks his name. So he said "vinceeent" or something like that. Then she goes "and what's my name?" and he didn't hear and goes "VINCEEENT!"
hahahah it was so funny
And she goes "but what's MY name?"
and he goes
"... BEYONCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE~"
and she burst into "Say My Name"
it was so funny, imagine doing that in front of 20,000 people XD

Ooh and near the end loads of pics of Barack Obama were showed on the screen. Everyone cheered and stomped their feet =p

Oh and in the middle of "If I Were A Boy" she suddenly switched to a cover of "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morrisette. That was great :D

Then as a big finale thing she did "Single Ladies" which had the crowd roaring. Then after that it went all dark and my mum and I thought she'd finished so we started to rush out to get out before the crowd, then she came on again to finish off with "Halo" which is sooo beautifuuull. Then just before that finished my mum and I decided to make a run for it because it was getting late.

So we literally ran to the bus, then ran to the train to London Bridge, but it was too late and we'd missed the last train back to Brighton DDD:

So we asked some attendants and they were like "uuhhh dunno rly" so we asked some others and he said get the train to Three Bridges. So we did, and by this time it was past midnight and we only had the return ticket for the 25th so we were worried. That took like an hour. Then we had to wait at Three Bridges for 20 minutes and I was literally dying of hunger and tiredness and "i hope i dont have to sleep in a train station". Luckily a train to brighton came though. But it wasn't a FCC train, no inspectors but when we tried to get through the turnstyles in Brighton station the guy was like "you shouldnt have been on that train..." and we were like "sorry =[[" and he said "just be careful next time"
So we got a taxi with a very angry taxi driver. And then I finally got to sleep at 2am. And I was up at 9. And now I am really tired cos it's midnight and am going to stop typing hoshit my internet just wnet.

Aah FFS why do they always turn the wireless off for the night just when I'm about to post my entry.

Anyone with opinions on the wearing of fur, get in here, I'd like to hear your thoughts...

So, being my fashion-concious self (hahahah), I was just looking at some scans from old copies of Vogue Paris on fakingfashionwhen I dramatically FELL IN LOVE with this picture:

Then I thought to myself: "but hey Anya, some small fluffy animals died to make that coat! doesn't that bother you?"
And the immediate reaction was "no, long gone are my days of rebellious mysanthropy, if you have a problem with that coat you may as well toss away your leather shoes and vomit up your delicious chicken dinner, but then again, it's entirely possible that the fur is obtained in ways I find highly distasteful..."

And then I decided to have a read about the fur trade, consider some other peoples' thoughts on the matter and properly form an opinion based on evidence presented to me, and ended up staying up till 1am reading three pages of debate on 'Comment is Free' o_o;

A lot of people despise the wearing of fur, for various reasons (though I doubt most of them put any actual thought into it before they start spewing those reasons):

- they skin the poor screaming bunny wabbits alive
- animals have rights
- it looks better on the animal
- how would you like it if someone skinned your dog and walked around wearing him?

and so on.

I'm going to think about these points from the bottom up...

Firstly, I wouldn't like it much at all if someone skinned by dog and walked around wearing him. This is because I have an emotional attachment to my dog. I do not, however, have an emotional attachment to that walking lamb shank over there.

Second, I can't debate against opinions - but I don't think who looks best wearing that fur is really an important issue when you're considering cruelty.

Which brings me onto animal rights: much like human rights, it's a concept. Nature didn't wake up one day and say "people and animals must be treated like this", people did. To me, though I support the idea of human and animals rights being enshrined in law, that's just what they are - law. And law varies from culture to culture. As do morals - they're relative, not objective and universal. What seems like a horrific infringement of 'animal rights' to us may be perfectly reasonable in another country, and who are we to say that the morals we have been raised with are the 'right ones'?

So therefore, why -shouldn't- I go out and skin a lion? Presuming it's legal in whichever country this lion resides, there's technically no reason I shouldn't - even if I did believe wholeheartedly in the concept of rights, surely with rights comes responsabilities? Perhaps when that lion starts considering the ethics of crushing an impala's skull between its jaws, I will decide the lion is a sentient being and decide him worthy of rights.

But no.
Because likewise, a baby can't be expected to hold responsabilities, but they are granted rights just like any other human being, despite their seeming lack of intelligent thought or understanding of the world around them. And who would argue with that? I certainly wouldn't - it'd just be a hypocritical extension on my opposition to the idea that the less intelligent you are, the less you are worth.

So, I quite agree with animal rights.
Not to the same level as human rights, but I definately think animals should be caused unnecessary suffering. That's my morals - I'm rather opposed to the idea that animals should be skinned alive, and their flayed corpse tossed to the flies, solely for the purpose that some aristocrat can have a nice stole.

Which raises the question - how exactly is fur obtained?

A quick search on google is surprisingly inconclusive (click on any link from an animal rights organisation and you are quickly presented with horrific videos of Chinese people bashing dogs against the wall) - the most information I actually managed to find was from this article:

At first it seems all good, the first farm (abbatoir?) mentioned kept the animals in fairly acceptable conditions, they were gassed (not skinned alive). But having just looked up Carbon Dioxide poisoning (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypercapnia), the symptoms are listed as "disorientation, panic, hyperventilation, convulsions, unconsciousness, and eventually death."
No good! That doesn't sound very painless or quick to me. But a mink isn't worth a whole bullet is it? Plus, it might stain that precious fur.

And like the article goes on to say - this is a regulated farm from a country with laws for the trade, not all farms are like this. From what I understand, 50% of fur is imported from China and I'm not even going into that - I could be wrong but I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say that their standards of humane slaughter won't match mine.

In fact, the article's author goes into considerable detail about the difficulty in obtaining information surrounding the production of fur. So for someone like me, who has no moral problems with fur providing the care and slaughter of the animals is acceptable, it'd be a risky situation.

So, in conclusion (am getting bored of this pretentious register haha), I think that the risks probably outweigh the goal and I'll stick to fake fur if anything. I mean, it would be nice if, like in British abattoirs, the animals were slaughtered humanely and every possible part of the carcass could be used, skin, meat, bones and all - not a single part wasted, but that isn't the case, and is it really worth the risk?

So having spend the last God knows how long reading, researching, and writing this piece of crap entry, and despite the fact that there's probably so much that could still be covered:

* Was trying not to be too literal about the translation, and make the English sound pretty too but that line was annoying! Couldn't for the life of me think of a nice way of saying that in English and eventually gave up and did a literal translation :D

In a way translating from French is more difficult than Japanese, because with Japanese I don't even bother making it sound nice, haha. And sorry if any of the lyrics are wrong, they were different on all the different sites, and I had listen carefully to see which were right lol. Oh yeah, and sorry about the video - I searched for ages for one that was available outside of France, and for some reason they all had the beginning and part of the end cut off.

'lo everyone!

I don't actually have anything very interesting to say, so I think I'll just ramble and put it under a cut so you can ignore it if you wish :)

I had a nice relaxing day yesterday.

I've discovered a much better method of revision. Before, I did an hours work, had an hours break, did an hours work and so on. But that was quite unpleasant and stressful, because by the end of it you're literally dying of boredom, and then when your hour of freedom ends it's very difficult to have the willpower to start again.

My new amazing technique is to do half an hour, because that way my brain can focus for the entire time instead of frazzling out near the end. And then I have a break, perhaps have something to eat, or pop onto LJ, and then I go back to revision as soon as I think "... but what should I do now?"

I recommend that, especially if you're shockingly lazy like meeeeeee :D

Why hello everyone!
I am in the OLC at college. I imagine I could be doing some work, but atm there aren't really any pressing things.
Oh wait, I guess there's always going over my French oral thing one more time.
Hmmm but I did that earlier. Are we allowed to just look at our notes the whole way through? Otherwise I have no idea whatsoever. And I hope they don't surprise me with any questions, because otherwise I may be forced to resort to Anya-French, which is the French that I have actually found necessary when speaking to the French, and consists mainly of "t'es vraiment stupid" et "je veux te baiser, stupid" and "ta mere est belle, je l'ai baise" ^___^

Wait, I shall quickly consider the last answer that I haven't got notes for. It's something liiike...

Anyhoos, my exam is at 2.30 and it's only 12.35 now and I have nothing to do between now and then except for go see my form tutor about my subjects for next year. Am doing global perspectives instead of Spanish =D

Anyway, I had my Spanish oral mock this morning. It was 'kay. Completely ridiculous, like my Spanish lessons are. I was all like "shiiit lol I haven't learnt any of these things that I'm supposed to have learnt" so I asked how much we were allowed to take in with us and she said "all of it"
So I was like k. The roleplay bit was really easy, 'cept I presumed that the word for t-shirt would be t-shirt like in French, but it wasn't, a t-shirt in Spanish is in fact "una camiseta" apparently. But she told me that before we started recording o.o
So then I basically did that, then I read out the Spanish from my sheets.
And on account of the fact I was reading it out, I read super duper fast!
But I kept accidentally trying to say things with a French accent for some reason.

Anyway, she said my conversation thing was an A* (not rly hard when you're just reading something from a sheet that you wrote with the aid of wordreference hur hurrr) and my roleplay was probably an A, since I only used one past tense and I didn't put in enough opinion. That was because I couldn't remember any adjectives ):

Oh well. A* and A is not bad considerin' that if I attend classes I don't listen and I haven't revised at all. I intend to actually teach myself tenses over half term see 8-)

I spent like a couple of days downloading 'Hercules', and it finished last night and I was all excited about watching it after college today, but then when I opened it up it was some crappy live action film also called Hercules ;___:

Hmmmhmmhm booored.

Today I am ill D:
'cos yesterday, I was fine all day, and then suddenly when I was walking to Spanish after form, I was like *dies*
Not really, but I started to feel very faint and sick and horrible ):

And then I was reeeally grumpy all yesterday evening because I KEEP GETTING ILL AND IT IS INFURIATING.
And then I went to bed at 9, and at some point in the night, I woke up, and my sister was using my feet as a pillow o_____O
So I made her get off by wiggling my feet and explaining that her bed was over there, and then she tried to steal my duvet so I yanked it away from her and explained that her duvet was over there.
And Lol, I told everyone what happened and everyone is laughing, except for my nan who says "Well YOU used to walk around in your sleep! D:{"
Omggg she is so easily offended!

Anyway, after that I couldn't sleep and I was just layin' there being overheated from 1am till about 5am when I decided I was going to go get a drink. So I went downstairs and went to sleep on the sofa till about 8.

And ohhh whyy do I keep getting ill?
I had to phone in sick for work, which I really would rather not have done as I imagine finding someone to cover with only a few hours notice is not so easy. :S

But alas, I've spent the day sitting around drinking water and honey & lemon. And I had a sleep for a couple of hours, wearing jeans, a long sleeved top, a massive dressing gown, and covered with two duvets. And when I woke up I was all dry and absolutely boiling!

Shan't bother yapping on any more actually, 'tis incredibly boring.

The 'Rotenburg Cannibal', Armin Meiwes. I always found that one interesting because for a cannibal who had fantasised about eating people since he was a child, he seems like a fairly pleasant fellow. He advertised for victims on the internet ("looking for a well-built 18 to 30-year-old to be slaughtered and then consumed"), and apparently he had a few who met up with him but chickened out at the last moment. I read he had one guy hung up on a meat hook ready to be killed, and the guy decided he in fact didn't want to be eaten, and instead they spent the evening watching films.

How many cannibals do you know that would free someone that they'd wrapped up in clingfilm, covered in labels denoting the different cuts of meat, and strung from a meat hook?

I wouldn't suggest looking it up really. It's a bit disturbing to say the least.

It's the twentieth anniversary of the first Simpsons episode today. Who is your favorite Simpsons character—Ralph? Sideshow Bob? Ned Flanders? An actual Simpson?

I think it could possibly be Groundskeeper Willie. Nearly everything that fellow says has me in stitches.

I also love Mr Burns. I feel him and I are very similar. And Ned Flanders is a legend as well because saying "diddly" in between words never gets old. I also like Apu *looks up surname* Nahasapeemapetilon, because it often is very difficult to resist saying "thank yoouuu, come again!" in a dodgy Indian accent.
Oh, and the "YeeeEEEeees Guy".

Which reminds me Katie, y'know when we were being all like "YeeeEEEEEEsssss?" but I couldn't remember where I got it from?
